Preparing for Toscane

Now we have our tent, backpacks and beds, it was time to decide where we would walk.
First we’ll take a Ryaniar flight from Brussels Charleroi to Pisa. I hope we will see the tower from the air, as the airport is only 1 km from the city center and except for that tower the city isn’t much worth to see. From there we take the train to Firenze, where we will visit the city and overnight in a cheap hotel.

Our real trip will begin the next day. Our goal is to reach Siena, one of the most beautiful cities of Italy. In 6 days, we will walk from Firenze to Siena, between the cypresses of the rich Chianti area, passing cute little cities like Radda in Chianti, crossing the national park of mount San Michele, and ending with a romantic view over Siena. The next day, after having visited Siena, we take the train back to Pisa where our plain is waiting to fly us back to Belgium.

Of the 7 nights there will only see 4 campings (the green dots) and 1 hotel, so sometimes we will have to ask the local population to make use of their Tuscan gardens ! The total distance of our walk will be around 140 km/88 mile (maximum).

The only thing you could visit in Pisa is indeed the plaza with the Tower. Be aware for all the african/chinese guys wanting to sell you “Rolex-watches” for 50 euro :-)
Although it may sound stupid, you should really eat a pizza over there. They are really good.
Anyway…have a nice trip !! (and bring some sun back to Belgium :-) )
