Orbicule is een Leuvens 2-mans bedrijfje, vooral bekend voor Undercover. Beide developers wonnen al eerder de awards. Vorig jaar werd Dennis runner-up voor Pathway (trots gehost door deze site) en in 2005 kreeg Peter de runner-up prijs voor iMap.

Nu krijgen ze dus goud. En wees maar zeker dat ik fier ben!

Belgen en Nederlanders scoren de laatste tijd trouwens erg goed op de ADA. Vorig jaar werden het Vlaamse CSSEdit en het Nederlandse Papers ook al met goud bekroond.

Echt zo dom. Maar kan ik het helpen!

Het komt er op neer dat ik op de fotografische verticale krachtlijnen van het scherm een gebied van wazige letters krijg. Op het internet is hier niet veel over te vinden, behalve dan dat het bekend is dat de schermen van de Macbook-familie niet van de beste kwaliteit zijn. De garantie van de laptop is al lang voorbij, dus vrees ik dat ik het zal moeten aanvaarden. Je kan toch niet voor zoiets meteen een nieuwe laptop kopen ?

Dit in combinatie met mijn trillend ooglid, je zou er voor minder hoofdpijn van krijgen.

As I bought the laptop on the Apple shop, I only had 1 year of garantuee, that expired in July.
The Belgian Apple reseller “Switch” told me that fixing that problem would probably cost me an anormous amount of money, but they could have a look the problem first to get the exact price. That would take me “only” about 30 euros.

So that is what I did. When they confirmed me that the reparation would take me a lot of money, I canceled it.

But guess what. The problem is fixed. Just by having a look at it.
Isn’t that wonderful !!!

Also the intelligent CSSEdit, one of my favorite applications, got the prize for the best developer tool.

If Operating Systems were Airlines…

DOS AIR – All the passengers go out onto the runway, grab
hold of the plane, push it until it gets in the air, hop on,
jump off when it hits the ground again. Then they grab the
plane again, push it back into the air, hop on, etcetera.
WINDOWS ’95 AIRLINES – The terminal is very neat
and clean, the attendants are all very attractive and the pilots
very capable. The fleet is immense. After your plane arrives
6 months late, you begin to wonder why it has not arrived
yet. Your yet takes off without a hitch, pushing above the
clouds, and at 20,000 feet it crashes without warning.

MAC AIRWAYS – The cashiers, flight attendants, and
pilots all look the same, feel the same and act the same.
When asked questions about the flight they reply that you
don’t want to know, don’t need to know, and would you
please return to your seat and watch the movie.

OS/2 SKYWAYS – The terminal is almost empty, with only
a few prospective passengers milling about. Airline personnel
walk around, apologising profusely to customers in hushed
voices, pointing from time to time to the sleek, powerful jets
outside the terminal on the field. They tell each passenger
how good the real flight will be on these new jets and how
much safer it will be than Windows Airlines, but that they
will have to wait a little longer for technicians to finish
flight systems.

FLY WINDOWS NT – All the passengers carry their seats
out onto the tarmac, placing the chairs in the outline of a
plane. They all sit down, flap their arms and make jet
swooshing sounds as if they are flying.

UNIX EXPRESS – Each passenger brings a piece of the
airplane and a box of tools to the airport. They gather on the
tarmac, arguing constantly about what kind of plane they
want to build and how to put it together. Eventually, they
build several different aircraft, but give them all the same
name. Some passengers actually reach their destinations. All
passengers believe they got there.”

We zijn reeds 10 jaar verder. Inmiddels heeft Apple een tiental nieuwe features van Leopard voorgesteld. Vista is on the way (but far far away). Mijn grote vraag : zullen deze twee rivalen mijn grote wens waarmaken en Tagging toevoegen aan Spotlight en Doggy Search ?

Van Apple wordt altijd gezegd dat ze zeer gebruikersvriendelijke programma’s ontwerpen.
Maar wil je je iTunes bibliotheek kopiëren van Windows naar OSX, dan laat Apple je serieus in de steek.

Het grote probleem zit hem namelijk bij je afspeelgeschiedenis (bijv het rating-cijfer dat je aan een liedje toekent). Bij het klassiek importeren begint iTunes een volledig nieuw XML bestand, waardoor al je liedjes opeens weer “onbeluisterd” en “niet ge-rate” blijken.

Ik heb er lang op geprutst maar heb het dan toch gevonden, en er deze handleiding van gemaakt : (corrigeer me indien er toch een gemakkelijke techniek voor bestaat)

1. Zorg dat iTunes volledig is afgesloten !

2. Zoek je iTunes bibliotheek op je Windows-computer. Ga daarvoor naar de directory waar de mappen van alle artiesten staan (met daarin de albums en bijhorende liedjes). Zet al deze artiesten-mappen over (via Firewire, USB, Ethernet-kabel, externe harde schijf, … tesnoods in meerdere keren)

3. Plak deze bestanden in de map “iTunes Music”. In mijn geval bevindt deze zich in :
/Users/sven/Music/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/

4. Ga terug naar je Windows-computer en kopieer het bestand “iTunes Music Library.xml” (in je iTunes-map) en zet het ergens op je Mac.

5. Open iTunes op de Mac, en anulleer indien nodig de wizard.

6. Verwijder ALLE afspeellijsten (ook de “slimme”).

7. Kies Archief -> Importeer en zoek het gekopieerde xml-bestand. Druk vervolgens op Kies.

8. Wacht een tijdje. Als je de muziek in de juiste map hebt geplaatst, zal je oorspronkelijke iTunes-bibliotheek te voorschijn komen.
