Three years of studying are finished. Between 2003 and 2007 I became a professional bachelor in applied computer science. In short, a “programmer”. I waited a long time to update my blog, partly because I’m wondering what sense it all makes, but also because I have been very busy. Tuesday we did our final presentation (slides) about Sweden. I really tried to make something good out of it, as the project itself didn’t go that well. We were asked easy questions which were not very critical, so I guess it was ok.

I didn’t believe I would succeed for the last finals. I expected 2 failures, but no way, I got none !!
I’m not going to publish the exact results, but I can tell that my highest is 17 and lowest is 11. On the average around 13 or 14. No more than sufficient indeed, but that rate can change after my traineeship because this has a weight of 27 study points.

Wat is er mooier dan je laatste examendag af te sluiten met het legaal downloaden op school van de nieuwe Windows Vista. Ook al werd ik dan niet uitgenodigd in het Atomium, ik gun de Microsoft producten altijd een nieuwe kans.
Deze voormiddag, net voor de zware nederlaag van Datacommunicatie, toonde Tino ons al een demo.
Eerlijk gezegd, ik had Vista nog nooit in levende lijve gezien. Behalve dan op Javapolis, waar een aantal bekende Microsoft bloggers/medewerkers zorgvuldig enkele kritische vragen van onze mede mac gebruiker Bruno probeerde te ontwijken.

Voor mij zie ik enkele medestudenten een laatste hand leggen aan het domme Oracle-dossier, een verzameling van screenshots en copy-pastes van triggers (want Oracle Forms kan geen sql exporteren). In business the youngest programmers who still know about the structure of Cobol are about to retire. Still, the language is deeply burned into the most important and highly sensitive infrastructures of the world, such as bank software and the internet. Het is beslist. In het voorjaar van 2007 ga ik op buitenlandse stage naar Zweden ! Na moeilijke onderhandelingen kwam tussen 4 groepen 2 kandidaten kwam het uiteindelijk tot een loting. Sebastiaan en ik mogen naar Halmstad. De anderen naar Joensu (Finland) en Helsinki (Finland). Bruno en Ward tenslotte moesten noodgedwongen uitwijken naar de andere kant van Europa.
Halmstad zou een hele fijne stageplaats zijn. De plaatselijke instelling draagt de naam van een University, maar het zou om een hogeschool gaan. De ultra-moderne campus is 24/24 geopend, en wordt volledig elektronisch …
