Niet mijn grootste geldschieter weliswaar, wel de man achter Vlaanderen’s drukst bezochte IT-blog die mij een pak hits bezorgde. Bruno Segers, ex-Belux-baas van Microsoft, en nu hoofd van Real Software Belgium, plaatste zo’n 2 jaar geleden op z’n Msn Spaces een link naar deze site. Het waarom is mij nog altijd niet zo duidelijk, al vond hij de keuze van mijn domeinnaam intrigerend (een naam waar ik overigens zelf een betekenis aan gegeven heb naar een liedje van Muse en nu al een begrip is op Wikipedia !).

Na een vermoeiend weekend van kleren kopen (zoals in heren maken de man), fuiven, kot ontruimen en voor het eerst alleen op de baan tussen Brugge en Gent rijden, is het even tijd voor wat eye-candy …. Vista installeren !
Logboek :
Stap 1. Kopiëren van bestanden voor Vista. Gaat ongelooflijk snel, te snel om geloofwaardig te zijn.
Stap 2. Uitpakken van bestanden. Blijft gedurende 10 minuten op 0 % hangen, om dan ineens naar de 100% te vliegen
Stap 3. Onderdelen installeren. Nog sneller dan het licht.
Stap 4. Updates installeren. Waarom updates ? …

En verder ben ik eigenlijk niet geraakt…

Wat is er mooier dan je laatste examendag af te sluiten met het legaal downloaden op school van de nieuwe Windows Vista. Ook al werd ik dan niet uitgenodigd in het Atomium, ik gun de Microsoft producten altijd een nieuwe kans.
Deze voormiddag, net voor de zware nederlaag van Datacommunicatie, toonde Tino ons al een demo.
Eerlijk gezegd, ik had Vista nog nooit in levende lijve gezien. Behalve dan op Javapolis, waar een aantal bekende Microsoft bloggers/medewerkers zorgvuldig enkele kritische vragen van onze mede mac gebruiker Bruno probeerde te ontwijken.

IPHONE
BOOM ! It’s no rumour any more, the iPhone is a fact. I don’t know how they finally got the name. May be they will change it to iPod.
Anyway it doesn’t matter.
Apple made a mash-up from existing technologies… while we already got them seperately. And BOOM : 500 $ to 600 $ for the mini-mini computer, while my own Apple laptop, the white macbook, was around 1000 $. I think we should call this a pda, no phone.

Yesterday Sun Microsystems released version 6 of Java Standard Edition. So today I immediately went to JavaPolis at Antwerp to see this new system in action… Well actually I was lucky because with my school the entrance was only about 5 euros.
Hence, no Java 6. But it was quite funny ! I didn’t go to a forum before (except for the boekenbeurs) and so I wasn’t prepared for the huge amount of information and gadgets.

During a 3-hours fancy course yesterday, Ms. De Donder told us again about the so called revival of the ancient language Cobol. In business the youngest programmers who still know about the structure of Cobol are about to retire. Still, the language is deeply burned into the most important and highly sensitive infrastructures of the world, such as bank software and the internet. Dit jaar heb ik dan toch de drukte in het Sint-Pietersstation kunnen mijden. Want net zoals vorig jaar verzamelden alle johnies en marina’s in het station voor het massa-event I love techno. Niet leuk als je dan net je portefeuille bent verloren en de politie geen tijd heeft om zich ermee bezig te houden.
Sinds dat voorval ben ik dan ook steeds meer paranoïde geworden als het op verliezen aankomt. Ik controleer constant of ik wel alles bij me heb. Het leven zal een stuk gemakkelijker worden wanneer Apple de iPhone …
